HVAC MODULE WATER LEAK-SEALING PROCEDURE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1988-90 REGALS

THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REISSUED TO CORRECT THE "FILE GROUP" NUMBER. BULLETIN SHOULD BE FILED IN GROUP 1. PLEASE DISCARD BULLETIN 90-6-1.

Some 1988-90 Regals have been reported as having water leaking from the HVAC module. This water leak is coming from the lower front side of the module, as shown in Figure 1.

This water leak causes the front carpet to be wet and the resultant musty odor that is being mistakenly diagnosed as A/C odor.

This water leak condition may be addressed by either one of the following service parts and procedures.

Procedure

1. Raise vehicle and remove the A/C module rubber drain tube and lower the vehicle. (See Section OA)

2. Remove the close out panels (hush panels).

3. Pull back the carpet and remove the adapter duct (2 screws).

4. Remove the heater outlet duct (3 screws).

5. Remove the A/C module lower cover (7 screws).

6. Fill the front groove of the module, in the area indicated in Figure 1, with the specified sealant from the indicated area out to the screw attachment on each side of the area.

7. Reinstall the bottom module cover.

8. Reinstall the front heater outlet duct.

9. Reinstall the adapter duct and the carpet.

10. Reinstall the close out panels (hush panels).

11. Raise the vehicle and reinstall the A/C module drain tube. (See Section OA)
