DOOR LOCKS HARD TO OPERATE SLIDER AND KNOB MAY BIND

HIGH EFFORTS TO OPERATE DOOR LOCKS

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1988 BUICK REGALS ------------------

Customer comments of increased effort to operate door locks on some 1988 Buick Regals may be due to a binding inside door lock knob and slider mechanism (especially on early built units with Slate Gray colored plastic parts on trim panels). This condition can be repaired by replacing the lock knob, slider and retainer which are parts of the inside handle cup on the door trim panel.

The procedure and new replacement part numbers are as follows:

1. Remove the screw cap, screw and handle cup. 2. Disengage clips on slider and knob retainer and remove all three parts from the handle cup. 3. Install new slider, knob and retainer while making sure that red band is on lower end. 4. Reinstall handle cup, screw and screw cap while making sure that the lock rod end is aligned with the lock knob.

New Part Numbers: 10060574 - Retainer - right 10060575 - Retainer - left 20628537 - Slider - right or left 20640390 - Knob - right 20640391 - Knob - left

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
