WINDSHIELD WASHER PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENTS Complete Revision
Some customer comments have been received on early production 1988 W-cars concerning performance of the washer system. The following changes can be made to enhance the washer system performance.
STEP 1 APPLIES TO OLDSMOBILE ONLY
1. New wiper arms with a larger diameter washer solution hose can be installed on vehicles before VIN JD309364 to increase the volume of washer fluid.
Wiper arms - 20469530 (Right Hand)
- 10091282 (Left Hand)
STEPS 2 AND 3 APPLY TO ALL DIVISION MODELS.
2. The washer pump wiring connector indexing can be revised, as shown in the diagram, to increase the rate of washer fluid applied to the windshield.
The procedure which must be followed for removing the Metri-pack 150 series terminals used on this connection is shown at the beginning of section 8A in the 1988 Service Manual.
3. A revised washer program module is available which allows 1-1/2 wipes of continuous washer operation.
This replaces the program which provided wash on outwipes only with a dry return wipe. Vehicles before VIN JF245405 (Pontiac), JD352275 (Oldsmobile), J1488572 (Buick) can be revised by removing the existing wiper cover assembly and replacing with cover assembly service package 22063284 for a base system and 22087513 for a pulse system.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
