SEAT BELT WARNING SYSTEM OPERATION
The following information is to replace the text concerning safety belt warning system operation in paragraphs 2 and 3 of Restraint System (Page 10- 10-1) of the 1988 and 1989 W-car Service Manuals.
"The driver's safety belt system includes a reminder lamp and tone alarm to warn the driver that the safety belt is not buckled. If the driver's safety belt is not buckled when the ignition is turned on, the tone alarm will operate for 4 to 8 seconds, and the reminder lamp will remain lit.
If the driver's safety belt is buckled when the ignition is turned on, neither the tone alarm nor reminder lamps will operate." To diagnose a condition involving the tone alarm or reminder light, refer to the attached revision of page 76-2 of Section 8A-76-2 of your 1988 and 1989 Service Manuals.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
