INTERMITTENT HORN BLOWING SLIGHT PRESSURE ON CONTACTS

SUBJECT: INTERMITTENT HORN BLOWING CREATED BY SLIGHT HAND PRESSURE ON CONTACTS

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1988 BUICK REGAL PRIOR TO VIN 521269 (NEW PART)

Some owners of 1988 Regals built prior to VIN 521269 may comment on the horn pad being extremely sensitive to the slightest hand pressure resulting in sounding of the horn when not intended.

Elimination of this may be accomplished by replacing the horn contact assembly with a new one, P/N 17985572. Part number has not been changed but CANSPO stock has been reworked.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.

2. Remove two (2) screws retaining pad assembly.

3. Remove four (4) screws retaining horn bar.

4. Peel vinyl cover from contact assembly.

5. Replace contact assembly P/N 17985572 with a new one (same part number) from CANSPO stock. (All stock at CANSPO has been reworked).

Note: If needed, contact plates may be separated by bending apart as a temporary fix.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
