Tail lamp assemblies may be serviced by replacing lens only by using the following procedure:
1. Remove tail lamp assembly from the car using available service procedure.
2. Remove lens from the assembly by carefully prying lens with a flat blade tool from the housing.
3. Dry out any moisture or water from the housing.
4. Check for any drain slots in the bottom portion of the new lens.
A. If the lens already has drain slots, install lens using following steps.
B. If the lens does not have any drain slots, drill three 1/4 in holes in the bottom portion of the lens as shown in the figure.
5. Apply adequate butyl material (3M Sealer #8611 or equivalent) on the periphery of the housing (on the existing butyl material), make sure to fill all the voids. DO NOT BLOCK VENT HOLES.
6. Install lens to the housing by snapping in place and by applying uniform pressure on the entire periphery of the lens to obtain proper sealing.
7. Water test the assembly for any water leakage by dipping assembly upside down in the water halfway. Make sure to tape all the bulb holes.
8. Install the tail lamp assembly to the vehicle insuring it is sealed properly using service procedure.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
