Some 1988-90 W-cars may experience a squeaking type noise from the right rear of the vehicle. This condition may be caused by the right rear park brake cable moving through the grommet in the metal cable support bracket.
PONTIAC GRAND PRIX ONLY
Another possible source for this noise is an additional wire guide which may have been added on the right side as an additional cable support. If this guide is found, it should be removed. It has been found that this guide is unnecessary.
To eliminate this noise, first make sure the metal bracket is not distorted and the grommet is properly installed, and then lubricate the cable with a good high low temp grease where it passes through the grommet (See Illustration).
On some early 1989 models (See Chart Below), replace the cable with a new style cable, P/N 10137374. After replacement the cable must be properly readjusted per the service manual. This new cable should also be greased.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
