Whenever a comment of excessive power antenna noise is received, a possible ground-out condition should be investigated. Noise levels will vary and may only be present in one direction of operation. The antenna mounting brackets should be inspected with the lower fender reinforcement or the door hinge pillar before a replacement or antenna motor repair is attempted. In the majority of cases, only a minor amount of repositioning to prevent the contact will correct the noise.
The mounting design allows for some movement during operation. After the antenna is repositioned, full operation should be checked prior to installation of the inner-fender splash shield. Several returned antenna assemblies have been inspected and reinstalled on vehicles without any further comments of noise.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
