A new reverse band apply pin gage is required for all 1989 and 1990 THM 440-T4/HYDRA-MATIC 4T60 models. The 1989 and 1990 transaxle calibrations require a longer reverse band apply pin selection set. This new gage pin will make the band apply pin selection about 0.080" (2mm) longer or two sizes longer than if gage pin J 33382-2 is used.
When servicing a 1989 or 1990 model year transaxle, use the proper year band apply pin selection chart and gage pin J 33382-10. Gage pin J 33382-10 has a hex head for easy identification.
This product change information is shown in the THM 440-T4/ HYDRA-MATIC 4T60 Automatic Transaxle Unit Repair section of your 1990 Service Manual.
The reverse band apply pin gage J 33382-10 will be available later in the 1989 calendar year from Kent-Moore. Order the tool from Kent-Moore's order department at (313) 574-2332 or 1-800-345-2233.
This change does not affect 1988 or prior model years.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
