SUBJECT: SECTION 6D2 - STARTER MOTOR REPLACE

MODELS: 1991-94 BUICK REGAL WITH 3800 ENGINE (VIN L - RPO L27)

THIS BULLETIN CANCELS AND REPLACES BULLETIN NO. 236406

THE SERVICE MANUAL IS BEING REVISED TO CORRECT THE PROCEDURE IN SECTION 6D2.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT:

1. NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE AT BATTERY. 2. UPPER MOUNTING BRACKET ABOVE RADIATOR. 3. ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS AT COOLANT FAN. 4. COOLANT FAN ASSEMBLY. 5. UPPER AND LOWER OIL COOLER PIPES FROM RADIATOR. 6. RAISE VEHICLE AND SUITABLY SUPPORT. REFER TO SECTION 0A. 7. RETAINERS FROM ENGINE HARNESS AND REPOSITION AWAY FROM STARTER. 8. BOTH LOWER OIL COOLER HOSES FROM RADIATOR. 9. STARTER ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS. 10. UPPER FLYWHEEL INSPECTION COVER. 11. MOUNTING BOLTS/SCREWS. 12. STARTER FROM ENGINE, AND SHIMS IF NECESSARY.

INSTALL OR CONNECT:

1. STARTER TO ENGINE, AND SHIMS IF NECESSARY. 2. MOUNTING BOLTS/SCREWS. TIGHTEN . BOLTS/SCREWS TO 43 N.M (32 LB. FT.) 3. ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS TO STARTER. TIGHTEN . SOLENOID BATTERY TERMINAL OUTSIDE NUT TO 16 N.M (12 LB. FT.) . SOLENOID "S" TERMINAL INSIDE NUT TO 2.5 N.M (22 LB. IN.) 4. UPPER INSPECTION COVER AND BOLTS/SCREWS TO FLYWHEEL. TIGHTEN . BOLTS/SCREWS TO 10 N.M (89 LB. IN.) 5. BOTH LOWER OIL COOLER HOSES TO RADIATOR. 6. ENGINE WIRE HARNESS AND RETAINERS. 7. LOWER VEHICLE. 8. OIL COOLER PIPES TO RADIATOR. 9. COOLANT FAN. 10. UPPER ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET. TIGHTEN . BOLTS/SCREWS TO 43 N.M (32 LB. FT.). 11. ADD OIL AS NECESSARY. 12. BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE.

FOR VEHICLES REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY, USE: LABOR OPERATION: J4640 LABOR TIME: 0.9 HR. (NEW TIME)
