POP NOISE FROM POOR SPEAKERS WHEN USING CELLULAR PHONE

THIS IS A MONTHLY SERVICE NEWSLETTER ARTICLE. THIS BULLETIN IS NOT INTENDED FOR PUBLICATION.

SUBJECT: POP NOISE FROM REAR SPEAKERS WHEN USING CELLULAR PHONE (USE EXTERNAL ANTENNA FOR PHONE)

MODELS: 1992-98 BUICK CENTURY 1992-96 BUICK ROADMASTER 1992-98 BUICK PARK AVENUE/ULTRA 1992-98 BUICK RIVIERA 1992-98 BUICK LESABRE 1992-98 BUICK SKYLARK 1992-98 BUICK REGAL (WITH EXTERNAL RADIO AMPLIFIER)

CONDITION:

CUSTOMERS MAY COMMENT THEY EXPERIENCE AN INTERMITTENT POP OR STATIC TYPE OF NOISE OR MOTOR BOATING SOUND IN THE REAR SPEAKERS IN VEHICLES WITH EXTERNAL SPEAKER AMPLIFIERS MOUNTED IN THE VEHICLE.

CAUSE:

HAND HELD AND TRANSPORTABLE CELL PHONES (IF IT HAS ITS OWN ANTENNA) CAN TRANSMIT RFI BACK INTO THE AUDIO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM. THE NOISE RESULTS FROM HOW THE CELL PHONE COMMUNICATES WITH THE CELL SIGHT. WHEN THE PHONE IS CONTACTED BY THE CELL STATION YOU WILL HEAR A CLICK. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE USING THE PHONE. THIS COMMUNICATION ALSO TAKES PLACE WHEN DRIVING FROM ONE CELL SIGHT INTO ANOTHER. THIS "HAND SHAKE" SIGNAL IS PICKED UP BY THE RADIO, AMPLIFIED THEN SENT OUT TO THE REAR SPEAKERS.

CORRECTION:

THE ONLY WAY TO RESOLVE THIS SITUATION IS TO REMOVE THE CELL PHONE ANTENNA FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE USE OF AN EXTERNAL PHONE ANTENNA WILL ELIMINATE THE CONDITION.
