Dual Exhaust System Chevrolet/Oldsmobile

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
  2. Support the muffler, intermediate pipe and the three way catalytic converter.

  3. Object Number: 33036  Size: SH
  4. Remove the bolts, hangers, and insulators as used.

  5. Object Number: 33031  Size: SH
  6. Cut the intermediate exhaust pipe from the right and left muffler.
  7. Important: In order to ensure adequate overlap for clamping, the cut must be made as close to the right hand muffler as possible.

    The cut(s) must be made on the intermediate straight pipe closest to the curve coming out of the left side muffler. Do not cut on the curve or bend.

  8. Remove the intermediate exhaust pipe bolts from the three way catalytic converter.
  9. Remove the intermediate exhaust pipe from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the new intermediate exhaust pipe to the vehicle. Support the pipe.
  2. Install the clamp to the original mufflers.
  3. Install the bolts to the three way catalytic converter. Do not tighten the clamp nut.

  4. Object Number: 33036  Size: SH
  5. Install the insulators, hangers, and bolts as used.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the clamp nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb  ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to the three way catalytic converter to 47 N·m (35 lb  ft).

  7. Lower the vehicle.
