General Exhaust System Replacement Chevrolet/Oldsmobile

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.



2. Remove the bolts from the three way catalytic converter to the intermediate pipe.
3. Remove the oxygen sensor. Refer to Remove and Replace the Oxygen Sensor in Engine Controls.



4. Remove the exhaust hanger bolts.



5. Remove the exhaust hangers.
6. Remove the rear exhaust system.

1. Install the rear exhaust system.



2. Install the exhaust hangers.



3. Install the exhaust hanger bolts.



4. Install the oxygen sensor. Refer to Remove and Replace the Oxygen Sensor in Engine Controls.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

5. Lower the vehicle.

General Exhaust System Replacement Pontiac/Buick

1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
2. Remove the bolts from the three way catalytic converter to the intermediate pipe flange joint.



3. Remove the bolts, the hangers, and the insulators as used.
4. Remove the exhaust system.

1. Install the exhaust system.



2. Install a new gasket to the front flange of the single exhaust system.



3. Install the bolts, the hangers, and the insulators as used.
4. Install the bolts to the three way catalytic converter to intermediate pipe.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
