Subject: | Inoperative Left or Right Fog Lamp (Fix Not Yet Available) |
Models: | 1997-2004 Buick Regal |
Attention: | The Fog Lamp assemblies referred to in this bulletin were factory installed
from November of 2002 to the currently built 2004 models. This bulletin encompasses
models back to 1997 as these assemblies are the direct replacements for those vehicles
and you may encounter them on these older vehicles if replacement was required. See
below for how to identify these lamps. |
Customer Concern
Customers may comment on inoperative fog lamps. In addition, the lamp housings
may appear to have moisture, corrosion, or water trapped inside. During the 2003 model
year, a material change took place in the construction of the lamp housings. The new
plastic may open from the heat of the bulb and cause a hole in the top of the lamp
housing, admitting and trapping water inside. Any contact with water may cause the
bulb to shatter if it is in operation.
What Action to Take
Examine the front lens of the fog lamp. If the lens has "AutoSytems"
printed on the lens, this lamp is effected by the bulletin. At this time, take no
action as revised lamp assemblies are not currently available, and replacement lamps
may fail in the same manner. Take the customer's name and contact them when the soon
to be released Technical bulletin is available with revised parts. If the customer
acknowledges that the condition may return but has a specific need for the fog lamps
to be operational immediately, you may replace the housings with the current replacement
lamps. If you do replace them at this time, inform the customer that they will only
be replaced with the revised housings if the current ones fail again.
