Was the Data Link Connector (DLC) Diagnostic System Check performed?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. Attempt to turn on the radio.

Does the radio turn on?

Is the scan tool properly configured to interface with this vehicle?

  1. Connect the scan tool on a known good vehicle.
  2. Perform the DLC system check on the known good vehicle.

Does the scan tool communicate with the known good vehicle?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Disconnect the following connectors:
  3. • The radio electrical connector
    • The mobile telephone handset (w/UV8)
    • The remote CD player (w/WX9)
  4. Use a DMM in order to measure the voltage between the DLC terminal 14 and B+.

Is the voltage measured within than the specified range?

9-14 V

Go to Step 6

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. Use a DMM in order to measure the voltage between DLC terminal 14 and ground.

Is the voltage less than the specified value?

2 V

Go to Step 7

Use a DMM in order to test continuity between DLC terminal 14 and radio harness connector terminal E1.

Did you find continuity?

--

Go to Step 8

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Reconnect the electrical connector.
  3. Reconnect the scan tool to the DLC.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  5. Use the scan tool in order to attempt to communicate with the module.

Does the scan tool communicate?

Refer to Audio Systems and Radio for further diagnosis and repair for the vehicle's audio system.

Has the repair been made?

Refer to the scan tool manufacturer and/or scan tool user's manual for the correct operation of the scan tool.

Repair the short to ground in circuit 835.

Has the repair been mad?

Repair the short to B+ in circuit 835.

Has the repair been made?

Repair a poor connection or an open in circuit 835.

Has the repair been made?

A malfunction is not present at this time. Test the connection between the scan tool and the DLC for poor terminal contact.

Has the repair been made?

Inspect the connectors and the terminals for the following conditions:

    • Corrosion
    • Proper fit
    • Proper mating

Is the action complete?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Connect the connectors.
  3. Install the components that you removed.
