Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 28467-90A Engine Support Adapters
    • J 28467-B Universal Engine Support Fixture

    Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement .
  3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  4. Carefully remove the throttle body air inlet duct.
  5. Remove the engine mount struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  6. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  7. Remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  8. Remove the right engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  9. Disconnect the power steering oil cooler pipe brackets from the frame.
  10. Remove the A/C compressor mounting bolts. DO NOT discharge the system. Secure the compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  11. Disconnect the catalytic converter from the right (rear) exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement .

  13. Remove the engine mount lower nuts from the frame.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Use the J 28467-B in order to raise the engine.
  16. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  17. Object Number: 97800  Size: SH
  18. Remove the left (front) engine mount bracket bolts from the engine.

  19. Object Number: 97804  Size: SH
  20. Remove the right (rear) engine mount bracket bolts from the engine.
  21. Suitably support the frame. Loosen the left side frame bolts. Remove the right side frame bolts. Lower the frame for access. Refer to Frame Removal in Frame and Underbody.
  22. Remove the engine mount and the engine mount bracket.

  24. Remove the engine mount upper nuts.
  25. Remove the engine mount bracket from the engine mount.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 43405  Size: SH
  1. Install the engine mount bracket to the engine mount.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the engine mount upper nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the engine mount upper nuts to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

  5. Install the engine mount and the engine mount bracket to the engine.

  7. Loosely install the right (rear) engine mount bracket bolts to the engine.

  8. Object Number: 97800  Size: SH
  9. Loosely install the left (front) engine mount bracket bolts to the engine.
  10. Tighten the engine mount bracket bolts connecting the engine mount bracket to the engine.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the engine mount bracket bolts to 102 N·m (75 lb ft).

  12. Install new right side frame bolts. Make sure the frame is suitably supported. Install new left side frame bolts. Refer to Frame Removal in Frame and Underbody.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Use the J 28467-B in order to lower the engine .
  15. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  17. Install the engine mount lower nuts to the frame.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the engine mount lower nuts to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

  19. Install the A/C compressor bracket bolts. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  20. Install the power steering oil cooler pipe brackets to the frame.
  21. Install the right engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  22. Install the catalytic converter to the right (rear) exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement .
  23. Install the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  24. Lower the vehicle.
  25. Remove the engine support fixture.
  26. Install the engine mount struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  27. Carefully install the throttle body air inlet duct.
  28. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  29. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement .
  30. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  31. Measure the wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications in Wheel Alignment.
