J 21177-A Drum-to-Brake Shoe Clearance Gage


    Object Number: 177200  Size: SH
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the rear brake caliper bracket. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  3. Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  4. Turn the rotor slowly while pulling the rotor away from the hub.

  5. Loosen the adjusting nut on the park brake cable until the lever is at the rest position. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .
  6. Set the J 21177-A so that the J 21177-A contacts the inside diameter of the rotor (1).

  7. Object Number: 177201  Size: SH
  8. Position the J 21177-A over the shoe and lining at the widest point.
  9. Turn the actuator adjuster nut until the shoe and lining (1) just contacts the J 21177-A .
  10. Repeat steps 2 through 7 for the park brake on the opposite side.
  11. Adjust the adjusting nut on the rear park brake cable, then tighten the nut. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .
  12. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  13. Turn the rotor slowly while sliding the rotor onto the bearing assembly.

  14. Install the brake caliper bracket. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
