Circuit Description

The EBCM is required to operate within a specified range of voltage to function properly. The EBCM monitors for high voltage conditions which could damage the EBCM. The EBCM is designed to detect high vehicle voltage levels to the solenoid relay. High voltage may cause damage to the system.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The vehicle speed is greater than 8 km/h (5 mph).

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The battery voltage is greater than 17 volts for 0.72 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • ABS/ETS/TCS is disabled.
    •  ABS/ETS/TCS Indicators are turned on.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • Condition for DTC is no longer present and scan tool clear DTC function is used.
    • 100 ignition cycles have passed with no DTCs detected.

Diagnostic Aids

    • It is very important that a thorough inspection of the wiring and connectors be performed. Failure to carefully and fully inspect wiring and connectors may result in misdiagnosis, causing part replacement with reappearance of the malfunction.
    • If an intermittent malfunction exists refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.
    • Check for other high voltage conditions.
    • Test the charging system for overcharging conditions. Refer to Battery Inspection/Test in Engine Electrical.
