Courtesy Lights

The courtesy lights are composed of the following lamps:

    • The dome lamp.
    • The roof rail courtesy lamps.
    • The I/P courtesy Lamps
    • The inside rear view mirror.

The courtesy lights operate under the following conditions:

    • When any door is open.
    • When the headlamp switch is in the DOME position.

B+ is applied to the DIC/RKE fuse at all times. The DIC/RKE fuse supplies voltage to the RKE RUNDOWN PROTECTION relay coil side. and B+ is applied to the switch side of the relay directly. When the ignition switch is in the ON position then the BCM applies a ground to the relay. and the BCM then applies ground to the BATT RUNDOWN PROTECTION relay through the inadvertent relay control circuit. This energizes the relay closing the switch and applies B+ to the IP BRP fuse and the TRK/ROOF BRP fuse. B+ is then applied to all the courtesy lamps. When the headlamp switch is placed in the HEAD position ground is applied to the dome lamp switch circuit to the BCM. The BCM then applies a ground through the theater dimming ground control circuits to all of the courtesy lamps, turning them on.

Battery Rundown Protection

The headlamp switch has a timer.

The timer turns OFF the dome lamp and the inside rearview mirror reading lights under the following conditions:

    • When the instrument panel dimmer switch is left in the DOME position
    • When any door is left open for over 10 minutes

Sustained Interior Lighting

The BCM controls the sustained interior lighting feature. The BCM keeps the courtesy lights ON for 16 seconds, gradually dimming OFF after all the vehicle doors are closed and the ignition switch is in the OFF position. The sustained interior lighting is canceled when the ignition switch is turned to the RUN or START position during the 16 second interval.

Illuminated Entry

The remote control door lock receiver turns ON the courtesy lights for 38-42 seconds when the vehicle doors are unlocked by a keyless entry transmitter (if equipped). This confirms a remote door locking.

Sunshade Illuminated Mirror

The sunshade illumination mirror receive B+ through the same circuit path as the courtesy lamps but anytime the mirror cover is open, the sunshade illuminated mirror lamps illuminate. The sunshade illuminated mirrors lamps are connected to a ground circuit at all times.

Instrument Panel Compartment Lamp

Anytime the instrument panel compartment is open, the instrument panel compartment lamp illuminates. The instrument panel compartment lamp receives voltage at all times from the same circuit path as the courtesy lamps. The instrument panel compartment lamp receives ground at all times. The instrument panel compartment lamp switch closes with the instrument panel compartment open, turning ON the instrument panel compartment lamp.

Rear Compartment Lamp

Anytime the rear compartment lid is open, the rear compartment lamp illuminates. The rear compartment lamp receives voltage at all times from the same circuit path as the courtesy lamps. The rear compartment lamp receives ground from the rear compartment lid ajar switch through the BCM. The rear compartment lid ajar switch closes with the rear compartment lid open, turning ON the rear compartment lamp.
