AM

The range for most Amplitude Modulated (AM) stations is greater than that for Frequency Modulation (FM) stations, especially at night. However, the longer range may cause stations to interfere with each other. AM can pick up noise from things like storms and power lines. Reduce the treble in order to reduce this noise.

FM Stereo

FM (Frequency Modulation) stereo gives the best sound. However, FM signals reach only about 10-40 miles (16-65 km). Tall buildings or hills can interfere with FM signals, causing the sound to come and go. If the reception is poor, tune to a stronger station in order to improve the reception.

All factory-equipped sound systems with a FM stereo radio will switch to stereo operation whenever an FM stereo broadcast is being received. One of the following indicators will light on the display:

    • STEREO
    • ST

Stereo operation means the radio is separating a stereo broadcast back into the original 2 channels, called left and right.
