The Instrument Cluster Odometer may accumulate up to 16.4 miles (26.4 kilometers) when the vehicle loses battery power or when a disconnected battery is reconnected. This is due to a software condition that arises when the I/P Cluster loses battery power. To eliminate this condition when reconnecting the battery, use the following procedure:

Procedure

    Important: Do not attempt to restore the TheftLock® code, the radio presets, or the clock until all of the following steps are completed.

  1. Reconnect the battery as outlined in the Engine Electrical sub-section of the Service Manual. Be sure that the ignition is in the LOCK position.
  2. Remove the fuse labelled "RADIO, HVAC, CLUSTER, CEL TEL" from the instrument panel fuse block. (Position #41 in the Owner's Manual).
  3. Insert the key and turn the ignition to the RUN position.
  4. Re-install the "RADIO, HVAC, CLUSTER, CEL TEL" fuse to the instrument panel fuse block with the ignition still in the RUN position.
  5. Turn the ignition back to the OFF or LOCK position and the cluster will be reset to the proper vehicle mileage.
