The outside handles have adjustable outside handle-to-lock rods. This allows for adjustment of the amount of travel needed in order to operate the outside handle.

When servicing a vehicle with adjustable outside handle-to-lock rods, remove all free play between the outside handle and the lock. Also, do not operate the outside handle before these connections are made.

Removal Procedure

  1. Apply masking tape to the front door outer panel around the front door outside handle.
  2. Remove the front door water deflector. Refer to Front Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 293875  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the front door outside handle rod from the front door lock.
  5. Disconnect the front door outside handle lock rod from the front door lock.

  6. Object Number: 308317  Size: SH
  7. Remove the front door outside handle bolts.
  8. Rotate the front door outside handle to clear the door handle opening.
  9. Remove the front door outside handle from the front door.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the front door outside handle to the front door.
  2. Rotate the front door outside handle to install into the front door handle opening.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the front door outside handle bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Connect the front door outside handle lock rod from the front door lock.
  7. Connect the front door outside handle rod from the front door lock.
  8. Install the front door water deflector. Refer to Front Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  9. Remove the masking tape from the front door.
