Left and/or Right Fog Lamp May Be Inoperative (Replace as Necessary)

Subject:Left and/or Right Fog Lamp May be Inoperative (Replace as Necessary)

Models:1997-2004 Buick Regal

Attention: The fog lamp assemblies affected by this bulletin were factory installed from November, 2002 to mid-April 2004 or VIN #41342588. This bulletin includes vehicles back to 1997 as the revised lamp assemblies are direct replacements for those vehicles. You may encounter these revised assemblies on the older models if service replacements were required. See below for how to identify these lamps and specific instructions.

Condition

Some customers may comment on inoperative fog lamps. In addition, the lamp housings may appear to have moisture, corrosion, or water trapped inside.

Cause

During the 2003 model year, a material change took place in the construction of the lamp housings. The new plastic may open from the heat of the bulb, causing a hole in the top of the lamp housing, admitting and trapping water inside. Any contact with water may cause the bulb to stop illuminating.

Correction

If you have a vehicle built within the Nov. 15, 2002 -- VIN #41342588 population, replace both fog lamp assemblies. For vehicles built in early November 2002 or in mid-April 2004, first verify that the installed fog lamp assemblies are within the population of vehicles involved. The affected lamps have "Autosystems" embossed into the front lens of the fog lamp assembly. The revised replacement lamps still have the same lens markings; however, a sticker with the revised part number has been applied to the fog lamp bracket for identification purposes. For older vehicles from October 2002 back to the 1997 model year, you may encounter the affected Autosystems badged lamps if replacements were required for that vehicle from November 2002 to April 2004 and purchased from GMSPO. In this case ONLY, you may replace just one fog lamp assembly, if required.

Procedure

Refer to SI for Fog Lamp Replacement in the Lighting Systems subsection of Body and Accessories.
