J 25070 Heat Gun

Removal Procedure

  1. When replacing a weld joint molding do the following:
  2. • Use tape to protect the mounting surface during removal.
    • Use tape for alignment marks for installation of the molding.

  3. Heat the weld joint molding using a J 25070 152 mm (6 in) from the surface.
  4. Apply the heat using a circular motion for about 30 seconds.

    Notice: Use a plastic, flat-bladed tool to prevent paint damage when removing an emblem/name plate.

  5. Use a plastic, flat-bladed tool to remove the weld joint molding from the panel surface.

  7. When replacing, remove all adhesive as follows:
  8. • For body panels use a 3M™ Scotch Brite molding adhesive remover disk 3M™ P/N 07502 or equivalent.
    • For plastic panels use a lint free cloth and Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha or a 50/50 mixture by volume of isopropyl alcohol and water to remove the adhesive.

Installation Procedure

    Important: Apply the weld joint in an environment that is free of dust or other dirt that could come into contact with the adhesive backing. Forign material may cause improper adhesion.

  1. Warm the body panel with a J 25070 to a minimum of 21°C (70°F).
  2. Important: Do not touch the adhesive backing on the molding.

  3. Remove the protective liner at the front edge of the weld joint molding.
  4. Align and center the front edge of the weld joint molding with the front edge of the weld joint.
  5. Position the molding to the location marks and press the molding to the mounting surface.
  6. Continue to remove the protective liner from the molding, centering the molding and pressing it into the weld joint.
  7. Remove the protective tape from the mounting surface.
