Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Raise the transmission with the transmission jack and position the transmission to the engine.
- Install the 7 transmission fasteners (1, 3, 4).
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).
- Remove the transmission jack.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the 3 left transmission mount fasteners to the transmission. Refer to
Transmission Mount Replacement - Left Side.
- Raise the vehicle.
Note: If reusing the torque converter bolts, clean the threads and apply LOCTITE™242, GM P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent to the threads prior to installation.
- Install the torque converter to flywheel fasteners (1).
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 62 N·m (46 lb ft).
- Install the intermediate shaft. Refer to
Intermediate Shaft Replacement.
- Install the left front wheel drive shaft to the transmission. Refer to
Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side.
- Install the drivetrain and front suspension frame front crossmember. Refer to
Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Front Crossmember Replacement.
- Install the transmission front mount. Refer to
Transmission Front Mount Replacement.
- Install the transmission rear mount. Refer to
Transmission Rear Mount Replacement.
- Install the transaxle brace.
- Install the oil level indicator tube.
- Install the catalytic converter. Refer to
Catalytic Converter Replacement.
- Install the upper transmission to engine fasteners (2).
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).
- Connect the control valve body transmission control module (TCM) electrical connector (1).
- Install the range selector lever cable to the transmission. Refer to
Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement.
- Install the transmission fluid cooler outlet hose (5) to the transmission.
- 20. Install the transmission fluid cooler outlet hose retainer nut (4).
Tighten
Tighten to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).
- Install the transmission fluid cooler inlet hose (1) to the transmission.
- Install the transmission fluid cooler inlet hose retainer nut (3).
- Install the oil cooler inlet (1) and outlet (5) hoses to the retainer (2) on the control valve body cover.
- Install the starter motor. Refer to
Starter Motor Replacement.
- Install the air cleaner outlet duct.
- Install the battery tray. Refer to
Battery Tray Replacement.
- Install the intermediate steering shaft fastener. Refer to
Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement.
- Install the front bumper fascia. Refer to
Front Bumper Fascia Replacement.
- Adjust the automatic transmission range selector lever cable. Refer to
Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment.
- Fill the transmission with fluid. Refer to
Transmission Fluid Replacement.
- For transmission control module programming and setup, refer to
Control Module References.
Note: After an internal transmission repair or internal part replacement the service fast learn adapt procedure should be performed.
- Perform the service fast learn adapt procedure. Refer to
Service Fast Learn Adapts.
- Road test the vehicle.
