Removal Procedure

Note: Section in specified areas only. Sectioning outside of these areas may compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle. The sectioning procedures have been developed as a more cost-effective alternative to complete replacement.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  3. Repair as much of the damaged area as possible. Refer to Dimensions - Body.
  4. Remove all related panels and components.
  5. • Remove the rear bumper fascia guide left side. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Guide Replacement.
    • Remove the rear compartment floor panel carpet. Refer to Rear Compartment Floor Panel Carpet Replacement.
    • Remove the rear compartment lid weatherstrip. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Weatherstrip Replacement.
    • Remove the rear compartment side trim panel. Refer to Rear Compartment Side Trim Panel Replacement.
  6. Remove the sealers and anti-corrosion materials from the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair.

  7. Object Number: 2020481  Size: SH

    Note: Do not damage any inner panels or reinforcements.

  8. Cut out the rear end lower panel.
  9. Note: Note the number and location of the welds for installations of the service part.

  10. Locate and drill out all of the necessary factory welds.
  11. Remove the damaged rear end lower panel.

Installation Procedure

  1. Apply bodywork repair through structural adhesive to body. Refer to Structural Adhesive Body Repairs.

  2. Object Number: 2020483  Size: SH
  3. Position the rear end lower panel.

  4. Object Number: 2020484  Size: GT

    Note: Refer to Welded, Brazed, and Riveted Joint Specifications.

  5. Spot weld the rear end lower panel reinforcement accordingly.

  6. Object Number: 2020485  Size: SH
  7. Apply bodywork repair through structural adhesive to body. Refer to Structural Adhesive Body Repairs.

  8. Object Number: 2020486  Size: SH

    Note: Refer to Welded, Brazed, and Riveted Joint Specifications.

  9. Spot weld the rear end lower panel accordingly.
  10. Apply the sealers and anti-corrosion materials to the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair.
  11. Install all related panels and components.
  12. • Install the rear bumper fascia guide left side. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Guide Replacement.
    • Install the rear compartment floor panel carpet. Refer to Rear Compartment Floor Panel Carpet Replacement.
    • Install the rear compartment lid weatherstrip. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Weatherstrip Replacement.
    • Install the rear compartment side trim panel. Refer to Rear Compartment Side Trim Panel Replacement.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  14. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
