Circuit/System Description

The body control module (BCM) communicates through the keyless entry serial data circuit with the remote function receiver module. When any button on the keyless entry transmitter is pressed, the transmitter sends a signal to the remote function receiver module. The remote function receiver module sends a lock, unlock, or panic alarm request to the BCM, depending on which button is pressed on the transmitter. The BCM receives the message and performs the appropriate function.

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • The ignition is OFF.
    • The system voltage is at least 9 volts and no more than 16 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

There is a fault with the serial data signal that the BCM receives from the remote function receiver module.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

No action is taken.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • A current DTC will clear when the fault is no longer present and the ignition switch is cycled.
    • The history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles without a fault present.
    • A scan tool may be used to clear history and current DTCs.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the connector at the K84 remote function control module.
  2. Ignition ON, test for less than 3V between each of the serial data terminals listed below and ground:
  3. • Terminal 2
    • Terminal 3
If greater than the specified range, test the serial data circuit for a short to voltage.
  4. Ignition OFF for 60 seconds, test for greater than 100Ω between each of the serial data terminals listed below and ground:
  5. • Terminal 2
    • Terminal 3
If less than the specified range, test the serial data circuit for a short to ground.
  6. Disconnect the harness connector at the K84 remote function receiver module.
  7. Test for less than 2Ω between the serial data terminals listed below:
  8. • Terminal 26 and terminal 3
    • Terminal 27 and terminal 2
If greater than the specified range, test the serial data circuits for an open/high resistance.
  9. If all circuits test normal, replace the K84 remote function receiver module.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
