Removal Procedure

Notice: Do not overtighten vise, or damage to the master cylinder will result.

  1. Remove the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  2. Important: Do not clamp the master cylinder body.

  3. Clamp the flange on the master cylinder body in a vise.
  4. Important:  Do not damage the reservoir or the cylinder body when pushing out the pins.

  5. Carefully drive out the spring pins with a suitable 1/8-inch punch.
  6. Remove the reservoir body (1) by pulling the body straight up and away from the cylinder body.

  7. Object Number: 492286  Size: SH
  8. Remove the O-rings (2) from the grooves in the reservoir.
  9. Inspect the reservoir for cracks or deformation. Replace the reservoir if necessary.
  10. Clean the reservoir with clean denatured alcohol.
  11. Dry the reservoir with non-lubricated compressed air.

Installation Procedure

  1. Lubricate the new O-rings (5) and the reservoir-to-housing fittings with clean brake fluid.
  2. Insert the O-rings (5) into the grooves in the reservoir. Ensure that the O-rings (5) are properly seated.

  3. Object Number: 241612  Size: SH
  4. Connect the reservoir to the master cylinder body. Use your hand in order to press the reservoir straight down into the body.
  5. Important: Do not damage the reservoir or the cylinder body.

  6. Carefully install the spring pins in order to retain the reservoir.
  7. Install master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement .
