Problem

Action

A problematic hydraulic system

  1. Diagnose the hydraulic system. Refer to Power Steering System Test .
  2. Service the hydraulic system if necessary.

The power steering fluid level is low.

Add power steering fluid if necessary.

Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .

A sticking power steering gear valve

  1. Flush the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Flushing .
  2. Add power steering fluid to the power steering system. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  3. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  4. Replace the power steering gear if symptoms persist. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

Insufficient power steering pump pressure

  1. Inspect the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Test .
  2. Replace the power steering pump as necessary. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .
