Problem

Action

The steering wheel mounting nut is loose.

  1. Inspect the steering wheel mounting. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  2. Retorque the steering wheel mounting nut. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .

The steering wheel is damaged.

  1. Inspect the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  2. Replace the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .

The intermediate steering shaft is worn or damaged.

Inspect the intermediate steering shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .

Replace the intermediate steering shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .

The intermediate steering shaft bearings are worn.

Replace the intermediate steering shaft bearings. Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

The tilt head assembly is worn or damaged.

  1. Inspect the tilt head assembly. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Assemble - Off Vehicle
  2. Replace the tilt head assembly. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
