Problem

Action

The steering column mounting bolts are loose.

Tighten the steering column mounting bolts to specifications. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

The steering column is damaged.

  1. Inspect the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle .
  2. Replace the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .

The steering column support assembly is loose or damaged.

  1. Inspect the steering column support assembly. Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  2. Repair or replace the steering column support assembly. Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

The tilt head pivot pins are loose.

  1. Inspect the tilt head pivot pins. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  2. Replace the tilt head pivot pins as needed. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
