Important: The rearview mirror is attached to a rearview mirror support which
is bonded to the windshield. This rearview mirror support is installed by
the windshield supplier using a plastic-polyvinyl butyral adhesive.
To install a detached rearview mirror support or install a new part,
the following items are needed:
• | Loctiteâ„¢ Minute-Bond Adhesive 312 two component pack P/N 1052369
or equivalent. |
• | Original rearview mirror support (prepared per steps 4 and 5 of
installation procedure) or a new replacement rearview mirror support. |
• | Wax marking pencil or crayon. |
• | Fine grit emery cloth or sandpaper (320 or 360). |
- Measure from the top of the windshield (1) to the top of the rearview
mirror support.
This dimension is 135 mm (5.32 inches).
- Mark the location on the
outside of the windshield with a wax pencil or crayon.
Draw a larger diameter circle (3) around the rearview mirror
support circle on the outside windshield surface.
- Use GM Glass Cleaner GM P/N 1050427 or polishing
compound on a paper towel on the inside of the windshield surface in order
to clean the large circle. Rub until the area is completely clean and dry.
When dry, clean the area with an isopropyl alcohol saturated paper towel
in order to remove any traces of scouring powder or cleaning solution.
Important: If the original factory installed rearview mirror support is to be reused,
all traces of factory installed adhesive must be removed prior to reinstallation.
- With a piece of fine grit (320 or 360) emery cloth or sandpaper, sand
the bonding surface of the new rearview mirror support or the original factory
installed rearview mirror support.
- Wipe the sanded rearview mirror support with a clean paper towel
saturated with isopropyl alcohol. Allow to dry.
- Follow the directions on the manufacturer's kit in order to prepare
the rearview mirror support prior to installation on the windshield.
- Properly position the rearview mirror support to its premarked
location, with rounded end pointed upward; press rearview mirror support
against windshield for 30 to 60 seconds, exerting steady pressure against
the windshield.
- After five minutes, remove any excess adhesive with an isopropyl
alcohol moistened paper towel or window cleaning solution.
- Reinstall the rearview mirror. Refer to
