Was the Automatic Day/Night Mirrors Diagnostic System Check performed?

  1. Disconnect the inside rearview mirror harness connector
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  3. Measure the resistance to ground of the inside rearview mirror ground circuit.

Is the resistance within the specified value ?

1-3 ohms

Measure the voltage between the inside mirror supply (B+) circuit and the ground circuit.

Is the voltage within the range specified?

B+

Go to Step 4

  1. With the transmission in park.
  2. Measure the voltage between the mirror reverse input circuit and the mirror ground circuit.

Is the voltage less than the value specified?

0.5V

  1. Place the transmission in reverse.
  2. Measure the voltage between the mirror reverse input circuit and the mirror ground circuit.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

B+

Go to Step 6

  1. Reconnect the inside rear view mirror connector.
  2. Turn ON the ignition ,with the engine OFF.
  3. Make sure the transmission is in PARK.
  4. Cover the sensor on the mirror back (facing the front window).
  5. Shine a bright light into the sensor on the mirror face (facing the rear window).

Does the inside rear view mirror darken?

Repair the open in the inside mirror ground circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or short to ground of the inside mirror supply circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the inside mirror reverse input for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the inside rearview mirror. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
