The front seats are secured to the floor pan by two front hook attachments and two rear bolts installed to nuts welded to the floor pan.
The manually operated two-way front adjusters provides only fore and aft movement of the seat. When the seat adjuster handle located on the front seat is pulled up the seat adjusters unlock permitting travel of the seat. When the seat is in the desired position and the seat adjuster handle is released the seat locks in place.
The power operated six-way seat adjuster is available for the driver's and passenger's side on the Buick vehicles. The adjusters are activated by three 12 volt, reversible, permanent magnet motors with a built-in circuit breaker. The motors are energized by a metaphoric switch bolted on the seat side panel.
The three motors drive the front and the rear vertical actuators and a horizontal actuators. When the adjusters reach the limit of travel, torque is absorbed through the rubber mounted grommets located between the motor and the support. An overload relay is provided in the circuit and will open should excessive stall torque be applied.
All front seats have seat back head restraints on the driver's and the passenger's seat back. The head restraints are designed so they cannot be removed from the seat without first inserting a small rounded tool inside the head restraint guide to release the locking tab.
The following front seat options are available:
• | 55/45 Split Bench Seat with Armrest (1) |
• | Bucket Seat (2) |
• | Leather Sport Bucket Seat (3) |
All 55/45 split bench front seats have seat back head restraints on the driver's and the passenger's seat back. The head restraints are designed so they cannot be removed from the seat back without first pressing a release tab located in the guide support tube.
The seat cushions and the backs have formed foam pads which fit the contour of the seat back frame and also the designed contour of the seat cushion frame. The 55/45 split bench seat is equipped with separate seat adjusters. The driver seat is the 55 percent side and the passenger seat is the 45 percent side.
The 55/45 split bench seat is equipped with a reclining mechanism on both the driver's and the passenger's side. The recliner lever is located on the outboard side of the seat cushion. When the lever is pulled upward the spring loaded dual linear reclining unit located in the cushion frame is released. This allows the seat back to be pushed rearward or allowing the spring loaded reclining unit to bring the seat back forward.
Caution: Do not try to change the designed seat position by changing the seat adjuster-to-floor pan anchor placement or the seat adjuster-to-seat frame anchor placement. Changing the designed seat position could affect the safe performance of the seat and cause personal injury.
The buckets seat are equipped with manual reclining mechanisms. An optional six-way power seat adjuster is available for both the driver's and the passenger's side on these vehicles.
