Circuit Description

The Body Control Module (BCM) controls the dome lamp, reading lamps, and rear view mirror lamps through the theater dimming 2 control circuit. The BCM grounds theater dimming 2 control circuit which completes the courtesy lamps ground circuit, and the dome lamp, reading lamps, and rear view mirror lamps illuminate.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The BCM must be commanding the theater dimming 2 control circuit OFF.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • The BCM detects that the output for the theater dimming 2 control circuit is low when it is expected to be high.
    • The condition above must be present for more than 0.3 seconds.
    • The inadvertent power circuit has an open or short to ground. Insure DTC B1482 is not set before proceeding.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The BCM stores DTC B2617 in memory.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • A current DTC 2617 will clear if the short to ground or open in the theater dimming 2 control circuit is no longer detected by the BCM.
    • A history DTC B2617 will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present nor any other malfunction in the BCM is detected.
    • The BCM receives a clear code command from the scan tool.

Diagnostic Aids

    • If the DTC B2617 is a history DTC, the fault may be intermittent. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .
    • The following conditions may cause an intermittent malfunction to occur:
       - An intermittent short to ground or open in the theater dimming 2 control circuit
       - The BCM is intermittently shorted to ground or open
       - The inadvertent power circuit is intermittently shorted to ground or open

Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. Watch for the courtesy lamps to illuminate. Command both the ON and OFF states. Repeat the commands as necessary.

  2. Tests for a short to ground on the theater dimming 2 circuit.
