Go to Diagnostic System Check - Body Control System in BCM.

Check for Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Refer to A Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check (VIN M) or A Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check ( VIN 1,K) in Engine Controls for more information.

  1. Connect a Tech 2 scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  2. Use the Tech 2 scan tool in order to monitor the park brake switch input.
  3. While observing the Tech 2 scan tool, apply and then release the parking brake.

Does the Tech 2 scan tool indicate that the park brake input is active with the parking brake applied?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Disconnect the Tech 2 scan tool from the DLC.
  3. Disconnect the BCM connector C1.
  4. Release the parking brake.
  5. Use a DMM in order to measure the voltage between the BCM connector C1 terminal D5 and B+.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

9-14 V

Go to Step 6

  1. Leave the DMM connected from previous step.
  2. Disconnect the park brake indicator switch electrical connector.
  3. Measure the voltage again.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

9-14 V

  1. Leave the DMM connected form previous step.
  2. Disconnect the DRL module electrical connector C2.
  3. Measure the voltage again.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

9-14 V

  1. Disconnect the Tech 2 scan tool from the DLC.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  3. Close all vehicle doors.
  4. Apply the parking brake.
  5. Step firmly and hold the brake pedal.
  6. Start the engine.
  7. While shifting the transaxle into DRIVE, listen to the chime.
  8. While the transaxle is in DRIVE, release the parking brake. The chime stops.
  9. Shift the transaxle into park.
  10. Turn the engine OFF.

Did the BCM stop the chime for the parking brake reminder upon releasing the parking brake while the transaxle into DRIVE?

  1. Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement
  2. Perform the Setup New BCM procedure. Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Reinstall the connectors and the components that were removed.
