Did you perform the Lighting System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Place the gear selector lever to the REVERSE position.

Do both backup lamps illuminate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Remove the backup lamps relay.
  2. Install a fused jumper between the ignition 1 positive voltage supply circuit and the backup lamps relay switched voltage supply circuit.

Do the backup lamps illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Test for a short to ground or an open in the backup lamps relay switched voltage supply circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 9

  1. Using a test lamp, connected to battery positive voltage, probe the backup lamps relay coil control circuit.
  2. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  3. Apply the brakes.
  4. Place the gear selector to the Reverse position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

Replace the backup lamps relay. Refer to Relay Replacement in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Replace the console electrical center. Refer to Console Electrical Center or Junction Block Replacement in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Important: Perform the BCM Reprogram procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control Systems.

Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control Systems.
