Did you perform the Body Rear End Diagnostic System Check?

Verify that the rear hatch/gate ajar indicator malfunction is present.

Does the rear hatch/gate ajar indicator operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Is the rear hatch/gate ajar indicator inoperative?

Go to Step 4

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. Open the liftgate.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the LH lift glass ajar switch and RH lift glass ajar switch parameters in the Body Control Module data list.

Does the scan tool display inactive?

Go to Step 6

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. Close the liftgate.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the LH lift glass ajar switch and RH lift glass ajar switch parameters in the Body Control Module data list.

Does the scan tool display inactive?

Go to Step 11

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the left and right lift window latch harness connectors.
  3. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  4. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the lift glass ajar switch signal circuit of the left lift window latch harness connector and a good ground.
  5. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the lift glass ajar switch signal circuit of the right lift window latch harness connector and a good ground.

Does the rear hatch/gate ajar indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 8

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the left and right lift window latch harness connectors.
  3. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the LH lift glass ajar switch and RH lift glass ajar switch parameters in the Body Control Module data list.

Does the scan tool display inactive?

Go to Step 12

Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the lift glass ajar switch signal circuit of the left lift window latch harness connector and a the lift glass ajar switch ground circuit of the left lift window latch harness connector.

Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the lift glass ajar switch signal circuit of the right lift window latch harness connector and a the lift glass ajar switch ground circuit of the right lift window latch harness connector.

Does the rear hatch/gate ajar indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 12

Test the lift glass ajar switch signal circuits for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the liftgate latch harness connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  4. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the endgate/liftgate ajar switch signal circuit of the liftgate latch harness connector and a good ground.

Does the rear hatch/gate ajar indicator illuminate?

  3. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.

Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the endgate/liftgate ajar switch signal circuit of the liftgate latch harness connector and the endgate/liftgate ajar switch ground circuit of the liftgate latch harness connector.
