Makes 🢒 Buick 🢒 2005 🢒 Rendezvous - AWD 🢒 Engine 🢒 Engine Controls - 3.6L (LY7) 🢒 Upper Intake Manifold Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Remove the air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.6L (LY7).
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief in Engine Controls - 3.6L (LY7).
  4. Disconnect the fuel pressure and evaporative emission (EVAP) hoses from the engine. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service and to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service in Engine Controls - 3.6L (LY7).
  5. Disconnect the BARO sensor electrical connector.

  6. Remove the purge line from the purge line retainer.

  7. Remove the fuel feed hose bracket bolt and reposition the fuel feed hose.

    8. Important: Do NOT disconnect the engine control module (ECM) electrical connectors.

    Do NOT remove the ECM from the ECM bracket.

  8. Remove the ECM bracket with the ECM and reposition aside.
  9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  10. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  11. Remove and reposition the front portion of the front fender liners in order to gain access to the frame front bolts. Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Body Front End.
  12. Lower the vehicle.

  13. Position a floor jack at the front center section of the frame in order to support the powertrain.
  14. Remove the frame front bolts.
  15. Carefully lower the powertrain or raise the vehicle enough to provide access.

  16. Disconnect the purge solenoid electrical connector.

  17. Remove the wiring harness from the right side of the intake manifold.

  18. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connector.
  19. Remove the fuel injector electrical connector from the fuel injector electrical connector bracket.

    20. Object Number: 1394037 Size: SH
  20. Disconnect the intake manifold runner control solenoid electrical connector.

    21. Object Number: 1394050 Size: SH
  21. Disconnect the throttle body electrical connector.
  22. Remove the brake booster vacuum hose and check valve from the intake manifold.

    23. Object Number: 1394081 Size: SH
  23. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose from the cylinder head and the intake manifold.

    24. Object Number: 1401463 Size: SH
  24. Remove the intake manifold bolts (1-6).

    25. Object Number: 1401466 Size: SH
  25. Remove the upper intake manifold.
  26. Remove and discard the upper intake manifold gasket.
  27. Disassemble the intake manifold if necessary. Refer to Intake Manifold Disassemble .
  28. Clean and inspect the intake manifold and the sealing surfaces. Refer to Intake Manifold Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure
  1. Assemble the intake manifold if necessary. Refer to Intake Manifold Assemble .

    2. Object Number: 1401466 Size: SH
  2. Install the intake manifold.

    3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1401463 Size: SH
  3. Install the intake manifold bolts (1-6).

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts in the order shown to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

  4. Install the PCV hose to the intake manifold and the cylinder head.
  5. Install the brake booster vacuum hose and check valve to the brake booster.

  6. Install the throttle body electrical connector.

    7. Object Number: 1394037 Size: SH
  7. Connect the intake manifold runner control solenoid electrical connector.
  8. Install the fuel injector electrical connector to the fuel injector electrical connector bracket.
  9. Install the fuel injector bracket.

    10. Object Number: 1394055 Size: SH
  10. Connect the fuel injector electrical connector.

    11. Object Number: 1394052 Size: SH
  11. Install the wiring harness and bracket to the right side of the intake manifold.

    12. Tighten
    Tighten the bracket bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  12. Connect the purge solenoid electrical connector.
  13. Carefully raise the powertrain or lower the vehicle in order to Install the frame bolts.
  14. Install the frame front bolts. Refer to Front Frame Replacement in Frame and Underbody.

  15. Remove the floor jack.
  16. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  17. Install the front fender liners. Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Body Front End.
  18. Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20. Install the ECM bracket with the ECM.

    21. Object Number: 1401470 Size: SH
  21. Install the fuel feed hose bracket and the bracket bolt.

    22. Tighten
    Tighten the bracket bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  22. Connect the BARO sensor electrical connector.

    23. Object Number: 1401471 Size: SH
  23. Install the purge line to the purge line retainer.
  24. Connect the fuel pressure and EVAP hoses to the engine. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service and to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service in Engine Controls - 3.6L (LY7).
  25. Install the air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.6L (LY7).
