Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

  3. Object Number: 1388664  Size: SH
  4. Position a utility stand beneath the rear center section of the frame in order to support the powertrain.
  5. Remove the frame rear bolts.
  6. Important: Do not lower the powertrain more than 100 mm (4 in).

  7. Carefully lower the powertrain in order to provide access.

    Important: Use a universal or swivel socket with a long extension in order to remove the bolts.

  9. Remove the crank sensor heat shield bolts (1, 2) and the heat shield.

  11. Disconnect the knock sensor (KS) electrical connector.
  12. Important: Use a universal or swivel socket with a long extension in order to remove the bolt.

  13. Remove the KS bolt and the KS.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 860801  Size: SH
  1. Install the KS with the KS bolt.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

    Important: Use a universal or swivel socket with a long extension in order to install the bolt.

  3. Install the KS bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the KS bolt to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

  5. Install the KS electrical connector.

  6. Object Number: 1395482  Size: SH

    Important: Use a universal or swivel socket with a long extension in order to install the bolts.

  7. Install the crank sensor heat shield and the heat shield bolts.
  8. Tighten

        • Tighten the upper crank sensor heat shield bolt (1) to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
        • Tighten the lower crank sensor heat shield bolt (2) to 50 N·m (37 lb in).

  9. Raise the powertrain until the frame contacts the chassis.
  10. Install the frame rear bolts. Refer to Front Frame Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
  11. Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
