Suction Hose Replacement LA1
Tools Required
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
- Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the air baffle bolts.
- Remove the air baffle.
- Remove the suction hose to evaporator outlet tube bolt.
- Disconnect the evaporator outlet tube from the suction hose.
Important: Cap or tape the open A/C hose immediately to prevent system contamination.
- Cap or tape off the evaporator outlet tube.
- Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the engine harness electrical conenctor above the A/C compressor and reposition the wiring harness aside.
- Remove the suction hose to compressor nut.
- Disconnect the suction hose from the compressor.
- Cap or tape off the compressor suction port.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Loosen the right hand engine mount strut, engine side.
- Remove the right hand engine mount strut bracket brace bolts from the upper radiator support and rotate the strut and bracket rearward.
- Remove the suction hose.
- Remove and discard the sealing washers.
Installation Procedure
- Install a new sealing washer onto the compressor end of the suction hose. Refer to
Sealing Washer Replacement
.
- Install the suction hose.
- Position the engine mount strut bracket flush with the upper radiator support.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the right hand engine mount strut bracket brace bolts to the upper radiator support.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 28N·m (21 lb ft).
- Tighten the right hand engine strut mount nuts, engine side.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 48N·m (35 lb ft).
- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove the cap or tape from the compressor suction port.
- Connect the suction hose to the compressor.
- Install the suction hose to compressor nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Connect the engine harness electrical connector above the A/C compressor.
- Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
- Install a new sealing washer at the suction hose to evaporator outlet tube fitting. Refer to
Sealing Washer Replacement
.
- Remove the cap or tape from the evaporator outlet tube.
- Connect the suction hose to the evaporator outlet tube fitting.
- Install the suction hose to evaporator outlet tube bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Install the air baffle.
- Install the air baffle bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
