3.4L Engine VIN Derivative and Identification Locations

The eighth digit of the vehicle identification number (VIN) is the engine code character (E), which identifies the engine as a 3.4L, V6 (VIN eighth digit: E) (RPO code LA1).

The stick-on labels attached to the engine indicate the engine unit number/build date code.

The primary location (1) of the Engine ID for the 3400 (LA1) engine on top of the RH rocker arm cover or front of RH oil pan rail.

The primary location (2) of the VIN derivative for the 3400 (LA1) engine is above the starter motor on the engine block. All engines are stamped with a VIN derivative. For more detailed information on the VIN derivative, refer to VIN Derivative .
