2002-2005 Pontiac Aztek

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Customer may complain of an intermittent or steady traction control off light illuminated. This may also be accompanied by DTC C0240. The light may only illuminate while driving but will go out if stopped for more than 10 seconds.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Monitor the PCM Transmission Range data while moving the shift lever or while driving vehicle. If PCM detects anything but a steady 'D4' range, it will set a DTC C0240 and illuminate the TCS Off Light.

Check for:

  1. Shift cable grommet not fully seated at engine bay to cabin wall;
  2. Chaffed cable;
  3. Kinked cable or
  4. Mis-adjusted transmission range selector cable.

Repair above condition(s) and then adjust transmission range selector using SI Document ID # 663001. Road test for codes.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
