Transmission Fluid Filler Tube Replacement LA1
Removal Procedure
- Remove the oil level indicator from the filler tube.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls - 3.4L.
- Remove the fluid filler
tube nut from the EGR valve.
- Remove the fluid filler tube bolt from the transaxle.
- Remove the fluid filler tube.
Installation Procedure
Important: Do NOT place the fluid filler tube seal on the fluid filler tube when
installing the tube or damage to the seal will result.
- Install the fluid filler
tube seal in the transaxle.
- Install the fluid filler tube.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the fluid
filler tube bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 13 N·m (115 lb in).
- Install the fluid filler tube nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 13 N·m (115 lb in).
- Inspect and adjust the fluid level as needed. Refer to the following

Removal Procedure
- Remove the air cleaner. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine
Controls - 3.6L (LY7).
- Remove the oil level indicator from the filler tube.
- Remove the fluid filler tube nut.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in
General Information.
- Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear. Refer
to
Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Support the rear of the frame and powertrain
with a utility stand.
- Remove only the two frame rear bolts.
- Lower the powertrain enough to gain access to the transmission filler
tube.
- Remove the engine coolant (block) heater cord from the transmission filler
tube. Refer to
Coolant Heater Cord Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the transfer case vent tube from the transmission filler tube.
Refer to
Vent Hose Assembly Replacement
in Transfer Case - Steyr.
- Remove the transmission filler tube bolt.
- Remove the transmission fluid filler tube.
Installation Procedure

- Install the transmission fluid filler tube.

- Install the fluid filler tube bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the filler tube bolt to 13 N·m (115 lb in).
- Install the transfer case vent tube to the transmission filler tube. Refer
to
Vent Hose Assembly Replacement
in Transfer Case - Steyr.
- Install the engine coolant (block) heater cord to the transmission filler
tube. Refer to
Coolant Heater Cord Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Raise the powertrain until the frame insulators
contact the chassis.
- Install the frame bolts. Refer to
Front Frame Replacement
in Frame
and Underbody.
- Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear. Refer to
Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the fluid filler tube nut.
Tighten
Tighten the filler tube nut to 13 N·m (115 lb in).
- Install the oil level indicator from the filler tube.
- Install the air cleaner. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine
Controls - 3.6L (LY7).
- Inspect and adjust the fluid level as needed. Refer to the following information:
