Rear Brake Hose Replacement DiscBrake

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Remove the wheel and tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
3. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and the brake pipe fittings.




Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting end in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

4. Remove the brake pipe fitting (1) from the brake hose (3).
5. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to remove the brake hose retainer (4) from the brake hose (3).
6. Remove the brake hose (3) from the brake hose bracket (2).



7. Remove the brake hose bolt from the brake caliper (1).
8. Remove the brake hose (3) from the brake caliper (2).
9. Remove and discard the two copper brake hose gasket. These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end (3).
10. Install a rubber plug into the brake hose bolt hole of the brake caliper in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

1. Remove the rubber plug from the brake caliper.




Important: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets (3).

2. Assemble the brake hose bolt and the NEW copper brake hose gaskets to the brake hose (2).

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

3. Install the brake hose bolt to the brake caliper (1).

Tighten
Tighten the brake hose bolt to 43 N·m (32 lb ft).

Notice: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted or kinked after installation. Damage to the hose could result.

Important: Use the stripe on the brake hose in order to align the brake hose with the notch in the brake hose bracket.




4. Install the brake hose (3) to the brake hose bracket (2).
5. Install the brake hose retainer (4) to the brake hose (3).
6. Remove the rubber cap or plug from the exposed brake pipe fitting end.
7. Install the brake pipe fitting (1) to the brake hose.

Tighten
Tighten the brake pipe fitting to 21 N·m (15 lb ft).

8. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
9. Install the wheel and tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
10. Lower the vehicle.

Rear Brake Hose Replacement Drum Brake

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hoses and the fittings.



3. Remove the brake pipes (1) from the brake hose (2).
4. Remove the retainers from the brake hose at the brackets.
5. Remove the hose from the brackets.
6. Remove the hose.

Important: Ensure that there are no kinks in the brake hose.

1. Align the hose fitting with the notch in the brackets.



2. Install the brake hose to the brackets.
3. Install the brake hose retainers to the hose fittings.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. 4. Install the brake pipes (1) to the brake hose.

Tighten
Tighten the fittings to 21 N·m (15 lb ft).

5. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
6. Lower the vehicle.
