Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 54701 Size: SH
  1. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
  2. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  3. Remove the lifter guide bolts.
  4. Remove the valve lifter guides.
  5. Remove the valve lifters.
  6. Clean all gasket surfaces with degreaser.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 54701 Size: SH
  1. Coat the valve lifters with prelube. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the correct part number.
  2. Install the valve lifters.
  3. Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent to the lifter guide bolt threads.
  4. Install the valve lifter guides.

    5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the valve lifter guide bolts.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  7. Install the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
