Removal Procedure
Notice: To prevent internal damage to the flexible coupling of the catalytic
converter assembly, the converter must be supported. The vertical movement
at the rear of the catalytic converter assembly must not exceed 6 degrees
up or down.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- If the vehicle is equipped with All-Wheel-Drive (AWD), remove the propeller
shaft. Refer to
Propeller Shaft Replacement
.
- Remove the catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts.
- Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
- Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector.
- Remove the catalytic converter to muffler
bolts.
- Remove and discard the catalytic converter to muffler gasket.
- If equipped with regular production option
(RPO) LX9 and front wheel drive (FWD), remove the catalytic converter (1).
- If equipped with RPO LX9 and AWD, remove the catalytic converter (2).
- If equipped with RPO LY7 and FWD, remove
the catalytic converter (1).
- If equipped with RPO LY7 and AWD, remove the catalytic converter (2).
- Remove the HO2S . Refer to
Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement
for the 3.5L engine or
Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement
for the 3.6L engine.
Installation Procedure
- Install the HO2S . Refer to
Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement
for the
3.5L engine or
Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement
for the 3.6L engine.
- If equipped with RPO LY7 and FWD, install the catalytic converter (1).
- If equipped with RPO LY7 and AWD, install the catalytic converter (2).
- If equipped with RPO LX9 and FWD, install
the catalytic converter (1).
- If equipped with RPO LX9 and AWD, install the catalytic converter (2).
- Install a NEW catalytic converter to muffler
gasket.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the catalytic converter to muffler bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
- Install the catalytic converter to exhaust
manifold nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).
- Connect the HO2S electrical connector.
- Install the CPA retainer.
- If the vehicle is equipped with AWD, install the propeller shaft. Refer
to
Propeller Shaft Replacement
.
- Lower the vehicle.
