Schematic Reference: Radio/Audio System Schematics

DEFINITION: With the radio operating normally, the volume greatly increases when the rear seat audio (RSA) power button is pressed ON.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Adjust the fade and balance controls to mid range.
  4. Press the power button on the rear seat audio (RSA) controller.

Does the volume increase greatly when the RSA power button is pressed ON?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Turn ON the radio.
  5. Press the power button on the RSA controller.
  6. Measure the voltage from the RSA enable circuit of the radio to ground.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

12 V

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the radio. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the vehicle equipped with an audio amplifier?

Replace the radio. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector C1 of the audio amplifier. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the RSA enable circuit between the RSA controller and the radio for an open or for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the RSA controller. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
