Power Steering Return Hose Replacement LY7

Removal Procedure

  1. Siphon the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  4. Remove the inner fender liner enough to gain access to the front frame bolts. Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Exterior Trim.

  5. Object Number: 1388668  Size: SH
  6. Use a utility stand to support the right side of the frame.
  7. Remove the right side frame-to-body bolts.
  8. Use the utility stand to lower the right side of the frame and powertrain.
  9. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the power steering cooling pipe.
  10. Disconnect the power steering reservoir inlet hose from the power steering pump.
  11. Cap off the hoses, pipes and pump to prevent contamination.
  12. Use the utility stand to raise the frame and powertrain.
  13. Install the right side frame bolts.

  15. Lower the vehicle to allow a floor jack to engage with the frame.
  16. Use a floor jack in order to support the frame and powertrain.
  17. Remove the right side frame-to-body bolts
  18. Use the floor jack to lower the right side of the frame and powertrain to provide clearance to the reservoir.
  19. Disconnect the ECM wire harness from the ECM wire harness clip on the reservoir.
  20. Remove the power steering pressure pipe/hose from the power steering reservoir bracket. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement .

  22. Remove the power steering reservoir mounting stud bolt.
  23. Remove the power steering reservoir, reservoir bracket, and both hoses from the vehicle.
  24. Disconnect the power steering reservoir outlet hose from the power steering reservoir.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the power steering reservoir outlet hose to the power steering reservoir.
  2. Install the power steering reservoir, reservoir bracket, and both hoses to the vehicle.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the power steering reservoir mounting stud bolt.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering reservoir mounting stud bolt to 25 N·m (19 lb ft).

  6. Install the power steering pressure pipe/hose to the power steering reservoir bracket. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement .
  7. Connect the ECM wire harness to the ECM wire harness clip on the reservoir.

  9. Use the floor jack to raise the right side of the frame and powertrain .
  10. Install the right side frame-to-body bolts
  11. Remove the floor jack from the frame and powertrain.
  12. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  14. Use the utility stand to support the right side of the frame .
  15. Remove the right side frame-to-body bolts
  16. Use the utility stand to lower the right side of the frame and powertrain.
  17. Uncap the hoses, pipes and pump .
  18. Connect the power steering reservoir inlet hose to the power steering pump.
  19. Connect the power steering reservoir return hose to the power steering cooling pipe.
  20. Use the utility stand to raise the right side of the frame and powertrain.
  21. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  22. Install the right rear frame-to-body bolt.
  23. Tighten
    Tighten the right rear frame-to-body bolt to 240 N·m (177 lb ft).

  24. Install the right front frame-to-body bolt.
  25. Tighten
    Tighten the right front frame-to-body bolt to 155 N·m (114 lb ft).

  26. Install the inner fender liner . Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  27. Install the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  28. Lower the vehicle.
  29. Fill the power steering reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  30. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  31. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  2. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
  3. Remove the intake manifold cover. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement for the 3.5L engine.
  4. Use a suitable tool to drain the power steering reservoir.
  5. Raise and lower the vehicle as necessary to access the pipe clamp at the cooler hose/pipe. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  6. Fill and bleed the power steering system after the repair has been completed. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Tip
Release the hose from the retainers to remove it from the vehicle.
