Condition
Important: If the customer did not bring their vehicle in for this issue, DO NOT proceed with this bulletin.
The customer may comment on noise from the area of the HVAC Module. This noise may be related to the movement of the temperature, mode, or recirculation, actuators and doors. GM Engineering has examined warranty returned HVAC modules and components without locating the source of the customer concern. It is expected that some interaction between the HVAC module and it's related components while in the vehicle is creating the objectionable noise.
Investigative Procedure
If you have one of the affected vehicles in your possession with a condition of HVAC noise, please compile the following information.
Important: To answer the questions below you will have to remove the hush panel(s) to visually inspect the actuator levers.
Answer the Following Questions
About the temperature, mode and recirculation doors:
| • | Do they move smoothly? Do they hang up at any point? |
| • | When changing modes or temp, is there noise? It is reproducible? If there is noise present at any point in the doors range, collect the door position counts and the direction of door travel. |
| • | Type of noise? (Whistle, hiss, flutter, thump, rush, etc.) |
| • | Is there noise when the door(s) are stationary? |
About the EVAP case, module, and related vehicle speed:
| • | Does the noise occur when the vehicle is moving? If so, at what speed? |
| • | Is there any noise related to blower speed, other than normal additional noise? |
| • | Does the noise occur with the A/C compressor ON or OFF? |
| • | Is the noise related to a vibration? Vehicle speed related? Engine speed related? |
| • | If the noise is related to vibration, is the HVAC module the source or are other nearby vehicle components resonating? |
